Welcome to our youth beds

Children grow up. Children become teenagers. Habits and tastes change. This also affects one's own realm and especially one's own furniture. Kids furniture becomes youth furniture.
Mostly the youth furniture is also the first furniture in one's own home and is taken along. They are designed accordingly.
But what exactly is the difference between a toddler bed and a youth bed?

Toddler bed - youth bed

It's impossible to say exactly. Because a lot depends on one's own habits, experiences and, of course, one's own taste. Nevertheless, there are one or two differences, although the boundaries between the two bed types are very fluid and variable.

  1. Youth Bed Material: Most beds are still made of wood. This can be solid, but can also be implemented through a wide variety of wood panel materials. While traditionally the type of wood used for cots is mainly limited to pine or beech, one or two other woods are also used for junior beds. Maple or oak are examples here.
In addition to solid wood, metal or fabrics are also increasingly used. This is particularly the case with box spring beds or upholstered beds. In summary, it can be said that the material is also becoming more mature in terms of feel and appearance.

  2. Youth Bed Design: Smaller and larger style elements that previously characterised the classic cots are becoming fewer. Smaller ornaments, excessive curves, motifs but also colours change and adapt. In the interaction of these factors - or the absence of these style elements also change appearance and charisma

  3. Youth bed colour: Also the colours change. In both cots and youth bets, natural tones as well as white remain at the forefront when it comes to popularity. But there are also colours mixed in that we commonly associate with the children's room. Pink and mint tones for girls are the classic. In the youth sector, the colour world becomes more adult. Strong, contemporary colours are used more. This can be black, for example.

  4. Themes & Contents: We associate play beds and adventure beds with children's rooms like no other furniture. These themes are disappearing completely with junior beds. Pirates and the like usually have no place in a child's room any more. The junior bed becomes more sober.

In which sizes are junior beds available?

Basically, the sizes of the beds are standardised. It does not matter whether they are children's beds, youth beds or beds for adults. The available sizes are identical.
Important: The sizes always refer to the mattress dimension. The outer dimension of the bedroom furniture can of course vary. Traditionally, the wider measurements are somewhat more popular in the youth sector. Perhaps because it also reflects growing up.

  • 90 x 200 cm: This is the smallest standard size. The classic single bed that fits everywhere. The range is correspondingly large. All commercially available slatted frames and mattresses are compatible and can be mixed with each other.

  • 100 x 200 cm: A relatively frequently requested and sought-after size. However, manufacturers offer relatively few sizes. We honestly don't know why.

  • 120 x 200 cm: The next largest width of a youth bed. What would have been enough for a comfortable double bed for siblings in infancy becomes a comfortable and spacious single bed "today". The width can be covered by a mattress and a slatted frame.

  • 140 x 200 cm: This size is also standard. Here you can already speak of a small double bed. Depending on the manufacturer, two-part mattresses and slatted frames are used here. So two elements of 70 cm width

  • 160 x 200 cm: The classic double bed also as a youth bed. Grate and mattress are divided into two parts for static reasons.

  • Oversize: The oversize refers to the length of the junior beds. Some manufacturers also offer lengths other than 2 m for an additional charge.

What accessories are available for junior beds?

Also in the area of accessories, there are few differences to classic children's beds. First and foremost, there is the bed drawer. This is a practical way to create additional storage space. And this almost always makes sense, regardless of age. And so there are a number of youth bed manufacturers who also offer matching bed drawers for their junior beds.
