Seating furniture for children - More than just a chair, stool or bench

Seating furniture plays an important role in furnishing a child's room. In addition to their status as furnishings, they also play a decisive role in daily life.

In the early years, they train motor skills. Your child learns how to sit. Just as important, however, are the contents with which the chair, stool or the like are filled.

Reading, crafting, playing are just some of the important daily activities for which childrens chairs are (almost) indispensable. Together with matching children's tables, they form the basis for a defined place where your child can linger alone, with friends or with you. Sitting groups are places of activity - alone or in a group. And they define a place in the middle of the child's room. The symbolism is also a part of the furnishing with table & chair.

What seating furniture is there?

- Children's chairs: The classic among seating furniture. Together with a table, they can create beautiful seating groups for children. The epitome of kids furniture. Unlike the stool, the children's chair has a strut that stabilises the chair, as well as a backrest. By the way, a chair can be beautifully upgraded with matching seat cushions. Of course, this also makes it more comfortable.

- Children's stool: The little brother of the chair stands a little more for improvisation and flexibility. It lacks a backrest and provides a little more mobility. Such a stool can of course be combined just as well with matching children's tables.

- Children's benches: The bench naturally has more radiance and presence. In contrast to the stool and chair, it has a fixed place in the children's room and therefore makes a greater impression.  Sometimes it combines the beautiful with the useful - because then there is still storage space under the bench. Then the seat is folded down and frees up the space. There are also matching seat cushions for a children's bench that make the furniture look even more attractive. On a bench you can live more togetherness, but also put your feet up sometimes.

- Bean bags: : The cosy seating is of course not furniture in the classic sense. But that doesn't make them any less interesting. Quite the opposite. Here, casual lying and "bumming around" is the order of the day. Because sitting upright is undesirable here. The bean bag is a comfortable place to relax, read and lie down. The textile structure also ensures that it can be better integrated into the design of the children's room and combined in a variety of ways.

- Seat poufs: The situation is similar with the seat poufs. They "stand" for casualness and improvisation. Here, too, the textile surface is characteristic and provides for one or the other possible combination. Even motifs and themes are not uncommon here.

- Children's armchairs: The "little children" of the living room armchairs are seating furniture full of charm. They either replicate adult furniture one-to-one or have been interpreted for the children's room in terms of shape and design.

What should you look out for when buying children's chairs and stools?

Safety and stability are important criteria, especially for stools and chairs. Seating furniture is exposed to very special forces and strains. A solid and safe construction is essential here. Not to mention the "annoyance factor" that we all know from wobbly chairs.

Design and styling can also be important decision-making criteria when buying. After all, the stugl, bench and stool should not be foreign objects in the children's room, but should at best integrate into the overall picture. At least, as far as a possible complete seating group is concerned, a matching table would make sense.
